Amazon is looking beyond internal AWS use for its custom AI chips, with TechCrunch reporting that the company is in talks to sell the hardware to other data center operators.
That would sharpen Amazon’s competition with NVIDIA and give AWS another way to monetize its silicon investments. It also reflects the scale of demand for AI accelerators as infrastructure providers search for alternatives to scarce and expensive GPUs.
The challenge will be convincing buyers that Amazon’s chips can fit into their software stacks and procurement plans without locking them too tightly to AWS.
