Nvidia has raised the price of its Shield TV Pro from $199.99 to $299.99, effective October 2. The unusual increase applies to a streaming box whose current design debuted in 2019 and still uses the Tegra X1+ processor.

The company told Ars Technica that component costs, including memory, have risen substantially across the industry. Nvidia continues to manufacture the device rather than selling from an old stockpile, so new units are exposed to current prices for memory and storage.

Those markets have tightened as AI data centers absorb chips and manufacturing capacity. The pressure has already affected newer computers and phones; the Shield shows that products based on much older designs are not insulated when manufacturers still need to source fresh components.

Nvidia remains in an unusual position because its own accelerators are central to the AI buildout contributing to demand. The Shield still offers broad media-format support and AI upscaling, but buyers now pay 50 percent more without receiving a new processor or a redesigned device. The cheaper non-Pro Shield has been discontinued, leaving no lower-priced model in Nvidia’s streaming-box line.
