More people are using AI chatbots to follow the news, with weekly use rising from 7 percent to 10 percent globally, according to figures reported by The Decoder. But trust remains limited, and only a small share of users regularly click through to original news sources.

That creates a difficult tension for publishers and AI platforms. Chatbots can make news easier to access, but they can also weaken attribution, traffic, and user awareness of where information comes from.

The numbers suggest AI is becoming a real news interface, even before the business and trust models around it are settled.
