AI agents now generate more than half of the weekly traffic handled by RunPod’s command-line tool, according to the cloud GPU company. The measure covers requests identified through its Model Context Protocol server, agent-tagged commands, or agent-tagged software development kit calls—not every action on the platform.

RunPod says agent traffic reached about one-third of measured command-line usage within a month of adding attribution tags, then passed 50% by the week of August 17. Roughly half of the people who used the command-line interface that week generated some agent traffic. Its MCP server, which gives agents a standard way to call external tools, has also grown steadily since launching in early June.

The figures are company-reported and describe activity on RunPod rather than the wider cloud market. They still offer a concrete sign that AI-assisted development is moving beyond chat windows: software agents are increasingly provisioning and managing computing resources themselves. That shift raises the importance of clear machine-readable interfaces, attribution, permissions, and limits for costly GPU operations.
