The US government’s crackdown on Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 obscures a larger trend: AI models with advanced hacking capabilities are likely to become normal.

The issue matters because model capability is moving faster than many safety and export-control frameworks. Governments can pressure individual companies, but the broader technical direction may be harder to stop.

For AI safety teams, the challenge is shifting from whether powerful cyber-capable models will exist to how they are evaluated, restricted, monitored, and deployed responsibly.
